How did it start?

I have always been intrigued with mountain biking but have yet to really have the chance to take it seriously. When the pandemic came, this was when MTB really soared in popularity. Since my travel business was on hold, I decided to get myself a bike and give it a go. I loved it! Then my natural business instincts kicked in. I realized there were limited MTB shoes available locally, and the designs were also limited. That's when I spent countless days and nights researching, talking with friends and designers, and eventually with manufacturers. This was when SaltX was born. It didn't take long for local bikers to notice it, and soon enough, I made my first international sales.

Why SaltX?

When I started my shoe brand, I envisioned it not to be boring but something that would add flavor and overall X-factor to the one wearing it. Salt, being the universal flavor enhancer, was then my top choice; I then added X to represent the X factor or whatever the wearer envisions it to be. X also represents all models and designs coming out of the SaltX lot. X represents you. Hence the name SaltX.

One company can have different brands, each with different identities.

SaltX operates two separate brand identities, and this works perfectly for me. I started with the MTB shoes SaltXCycle® brand that has a loyal following and customers returning time and time again. I then created the SaltXLifestyle® brand to sell Street Fashion shoes and boots.

While the same product team designs and develops the products for both brands, the brand identities could not be more different. Each brand does its job of targeting completely separate market segments. My company has seen a way to develop two brands and enter two markets,

by cleverly thinking about what I produce

and how I can appeal to entirely different customers.
